What Sue & John Wanted

Sue and John's garden had become a chore rather than a pleasure. Endless mowing, weeding and seasonal tidy-ups meant they were spending their weekends maintaining the space instead of enjoying it. They came to us with a clear brief: a modern, structured garden that looks immaculate all year round with virtually no upkeep — smart enough to entertain in, comfortable enough to relax in, and designed to make the most of the striking dark extension at the back of the house.

What We Did

We took the garden back to a blank canvas and rebuilt it around a crisp split-level design. Wide sawn sandstone steps link the two tiers, with a light porcelain patio and pathway cutting through a premium artificial lawn — all framed by charcoal block edging that ties into the house. Horizontal slatted screen fencing wraps the boundary, softened by pleached trees, clipped topiary and contemporary grey planters, while integrated wall lights, lanterns and globe lighting keep the garden working long after dark.

A Garden That Looks After Itself

The finished garden gives Sue and John a beautiful, usable space in every season — no mowing, no muddy patches, no weekend weeding. The lawn stays green in January, the porcelain rinses clean, and the planting is limited to a handful of easy-care evergreens. What used to be a to-do list is now a place to sit with a coffee, host the family, or just enjoy the view from the egg chair.
